Thesis Master M.A Sicherheitsrisiken durch Smartphonenutzung im öffentlichen Raum Abstract:Die Arbeit »Sicherheitsrisiken durch Smartphonenutzung im öffentlichen Raum – Betrachtung und Lösungsansätze zur Risikominimierung auf konzeptueller Basis« untersucht aufkommende Sicherheitsrisiken durch die vermehrte Smartphonenutzung im öffentlichen Raum während des Gehens. Dazu dient zunächst die Definition des »öffentlichen Raums« selbst als theoretische Grundlage. Einen Einstieg in das Thema bildet die Analyse einiger Reaktionen der Medien, die sich mit der grundlegenden Thematik dieser Arbeit auseinandersetzen. Die wissenschaftliche Betrachtung der Arten und Grade der Ablenkung durch Smartphones, möglichen Folgen davon und bereits existierenden Lösungsversuche und Konzepte, dienen zusammen mit einer unter Realbedingungen durchgeführten Nutzerstudie der Erstellung eines eigenen Konzepts. Dieses bietet eine umfassende Risikoeinschätzung durch das Smartphone anhand verschiedener Datenquellen, untersucht zusätzlich Formen der Warnungsdarstellung und führt eine Nutzerschnittstelle ein. Das Konzept stellt somit die Grundlagen bereit, um ein möglichst zuverlässliges Sicherheitssystem umsetzbar zu machen. Download

Paper Distracted Smartphone UsersPaper Willingness of Distracted Smartphone Users on the Move to be Interrupted in Potentially Dangerous Situations Abstract: The use of smart devices has become an integratedpart of our everyday life. Communication is now possibleeverywhere at any time. The distraction caused by these devices,however, can lead to potentially dangerous situations. To mitigatethese situations various researchers have proposed and developedsolutions to analyze the environment and to alert the user ifa situation is determined dangerous. While seeking technicalsolutions the concerns of the users are usually not addressed.With our study we put the belongings of the user into focusand investigated the acceptance and other issues of such typeof applications. We found that environment awareness for usersreceiving warnings over those who do not can be significantlyimprovement. We found that 56% of the participants who testeda safety application and received warnings would use it while only46% would use it a-priori without experiencing it. How to Address the Complete Audience of an Emerging Technology Abstract With the introduction of the first affordable high-quality head mounted displays such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift in 2016 the “old technology” (Sutherland, 1965) of virtual reality (VR) has experienced quite a boost: it seems foreseeable that the once “geek and nerd” (Mizer, 2013) technology will attract a growing consumer audience and is going to find its place within the universe of entertainment besides its already frequent use in engineering. However, when consumer VR applications are presented the two focused key audiences are on the one hand the cliché young male (intended use: gaming) (Hern, 2014) on the other hand high end professionals (intended use: engineering, etc.). EVALUATION OF OBSERVERS’ SENSITIVITY TO LENS DISTORTION DISCREPANCIES IN STEREOSCOPIC MOVING PICTURES Abstract: One potential factor of distorted stereoscopic perception of a 3D movie may be slightly different lens aberrations between the two lenses of the stereoscopic camera. We considered typical lens distortions discrepancies of several stereoscopic camera types ranging from cine to small action cameras. The determination of a detection threshold of different groups of observers with respect to gender, stereoscopic ability, media affinity, etc. was a main research topic. In one of our subjective assessments we used a gaze tracking system by which the eye movement of the observers could be roughly determined. We found out that image texture and content-driven gaze sequence had a strong impact on observer’s detection of stereoscopic aberrations. Minimal lens distortion discrepancy was already detected by at least 15.4% of the participants. The  umber of irritation statements increased with the magnitude of discrepancy. Observers showed highest sensitivity in still images or smooth camera travelling presenting many simple geometric objects. Still, up to 29% of the participants seemed to be quite immune against lens distortion discrepancies in spite of good stereo acuity as proven in Randot Stereo Vision test. Bachelor Thesis B.Sc. Webseiten-Optimierung im gestalterischen und typografischen Konzext Abstract:Diese Thesis beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema „Webseiten-Optimierung“. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Optimierung bereits vorhandener Webseiten. Diese sollten keinesfalls neu gestaltet, sondern optimal verbessert werden. Um dies zu gewährleisten, müssen zunächst die grundlegenden Gestaltungs- und Typografieregeln und deren webspezifische Ausrichtungen untersucht werden. Um diese Grundlagen zu erweitern, dient die Analyse einiger bekannter Webseiten. Diese dienen der Mustererkennung in Design und Typografie auf Webseiten generell. Die Anwendung dieser Muster und Regeln in Typografie und Design werden dann anhand von Beispielen veranschaulicht. Dabei werden die Beispiel-Webseiten zunächst analysiert. Anschließend werden die Schwächen aufgeführt und deren Optimierung beispielhaft umgesetzt. Download
